DataPacket
DataPacket Network is a company that is based in Florida and was established in 2001. It is a Web Presence Provider and is acknowledged as Reseller Hosting and Shared Hosting provider in the web hosting industry. Their main thrust is to present a web hosting model designed to provide low-cost web hosting service for business and personal use (much like Lunarpages).
DataPacket purportedly has a fast and wide range of networks that can provide optimum service. They have efficient data centers and top of the line infrastructure/hardware components that can perform reliable services with a large area of bandwidth for users and clients. The company has been expanding their system to meet future demands.
Features
The features and service of this web hosting company is intended and specifically designed for use by technologically advanced individuals that already have extensive knowledge about web hosting, namely: website Administrators, IT Professionals and Resellers who are familiar with how the system works and require little to no support or supervision. DataPacket is not crafted to cater to the requirements of newbies and neophyte web hosting users or website owners, for that matter.
At first glance, DataPacket offers a number of dream hosting packages and advertises the best features for the cheapest price, with such attributes that include unlimited domains, unlimited SQL databases, major scripting languages, excellent support, and hundreds of GB’s for traffic and storage, and so much more. Now who wouldn’t get lured with that? But the simple truth is not really that simple. It is in fact very upsetting. You would only find out later, but if there’s a spike in your traffic, say you get 300 to 400 visitors in a day, they charge you extra, without even notifying you. But the worst part is if you don’t pay, they would just simply delete your account, without a by-your-leave. On top of this, the supposedly high quality features they boast about don’t even work properly.
Uptime and Reliability
More like unreliability really. Forget about using ColdFusion and other stuff; they’re simply useless on DataPacket and it would just be a complete waste of time and money trying to figure out how to make the apps run; before you know it, you’re not online anymore. Things could go down any minute and your site simply disappears without you knowing. How do you like it when customers tell you that your website has gone AWOL? Not very pretty, but that is what happens with DataPacket. Not just your site, mind you. Emails and data disappear without warning. DataPacket seems to think: if you have a backup of your own, swell! If you don’t, that’s just too bad; DataPacket doesn’t even care. Sites are perpetually down; not just for minutes but hours and hours – even several days and they don’t even have the decency to warn or notify you. Or even give truthful explanation when you try to ask. They just give you a bunch of crap about maintenance, or hardware failure or some such lies. They couldn’t even own the fact that the service has crashed as apparently shown by the sites. When something like this happen, you stand to lose all your data and everything you worked hard for to put up on your website; not to mention huge money from lost revenues and profits in potential transactions. Customers swear the uptime you can probably get from this web host is 50 – 75% at best. A better option with 99% uptime would be Hostgator.
Customer Support
What customer support? It’s practically non-existent! Those guys, who call themselves technical support staff, probably don’t even know the meaning of the word. Seriously, you couldn’t get a straightforward answer to simple questions. They even close tickets and mark them “Resolved” even if nothing was done to resolve the issue. They take 3 to 5 days (sometimes even a week) before they reply to your email – several emails, in fact. And their toll-free number? You can talk yourself hoarse to the voice mail; no one’s going to answer – not anybody human, that is.
You think it can’t get any worse… well, unfortunately, there’s worst news – you can’t get a refund. The 30-day money-back guarantee is another one of their lies.
DataPacket Bottom Line
So much for promises; DataPacket doesn’t have the competent professionalism one would expect from a trustworthy web hosting provider. You are better off surfing the web for other reliable web hosting companies that have excellent reputation for dependability and reliability. Find all you can first and read all reviews (favorable or unfavorable) about the really good web hosts out there. I honestly do NOT recommend such a terrible provider as DataPacket. I do recommend BlueHost and iPage, though.
