SingleHop

SingleHop ReviewBased in Chicago, Illinois, SingleHop started in 2006. SingleHop is an established brand both in Dedicated and Managed Hosting. SingleHop is a subsidiary of midPhase.com. It is one of the biggest dedicated and managed hosting providers in the business. SingleHop is an accredited member of the Better Business Bureau (much like Hostgator). SingleHop offers innovative ways for their clients to manage their own servers with their LEAP control panel. The company runs two Chicago data centers. LEAP interface provides a single point contact for access, management and control. LEAP can be used to manage multiple dedicated servers. In this SingleHop review I am going to show you why I don't recommend their service.

SingleHop Features

Apparently SingleHop offers absolutely risk free trial; the first month for a free trial would just cost you $1.00. Normally their dedicated server is price from $100; unmanaged hosting $300; fully managed servers from $150 to $270. If in case you are willing to switch from a competitor’s service, this company pays you $200 as catch back for switching. They are also giving you a choice to be billed on a monthly basis so there is no danger of being in a long term contract breach if in case you want to get out of their service.

Their $300 fully managed server package is their highest management package but as one client said his site was cut by 33% for almost two weeks, there goes his profits for that agonizing two weeks (unlike InMotion where you can rely on them). Very fusterating if you rely on your website for money. They do not offer shared hosting services.

SingleHop offers you softwares like: Debian, CentOS, Linux OS, Plesk, cPanel, Windows Server 2003/2008 and a lot more.

Uptime and Reliability

SingleHop offers all servers setup with no extra cost. They say that they are offering a 100% uptime but in most of the user reviews their servers regularly crash and downtime is a normal regular occurrence. Aside from this they don’t know how to backup or recover data. They would even have the gall to offer you backup and recovery services for an additional fee. There are mixed reviews regarding SingleHop’s customer support friendliness and helpfulness in getting issues resolved. The average response time for complaints was 2 hours for the first reply and 4 more hours for the next one; this means they are that slow (they don't match iPage's standards). The most common complaint aside from this issue is about no refunds given which means once you pay them even for what ever legit reason you will not get your money back.

The Bottom Line

As their name implies it would be better to hop away while you can before your business suffers from SingleHop’s incompetence. Overall they have poor uptime, which SingleHop blames on greater Chicago power outages but if they have the necessary power backup then this would not be a problem at all since this would come across as a pretty lame excuse. Support technical assistance may sometimes lack the knowledge. As one client say he was sure glad he was able to walk out of that nightmare since that was like letting your business go down drain in one flush. If you are looking for a better option I would recommend you read my Hostmonster or Bluehost review.
